The Glory Of Kelaniya Murals
One of the best loved and most hallowed and historic Buddhist shrines in Sri Lanka, the Kelaniya Raja Maha Vihatraya is a unique treasure of epic Buddhist art of the eighteenth, nineteenth and twentieth century. The four image houses of Raja Maha Viharaya are lavish galleries of sacred paintings and mirror fascinating and diverse artistic styles and schools of the periods of their genesis. Painting has been skillfully used at the Kelaniya temple not only to adorn and beautifully a great national shrine, but as in all sacred art, to educate and edify the beholder; in an easy and attractive medium.
